Port Security Awareness

NAUTIS Port Security Awareness (PSA) is immersive 3D interactive training software which enables port safety personnel to practice tactics, techniques and procedures in response to suspicious activities in ports, both on water and on shore.  It is the perfect training tool to enhance required International Maritime Organization (IMO) and CFR 33 required port and facility security training, drills and exercises.

OPTIMIZE AWARENESS, INCREASE SAFETY
NAUTIS Port Security Awareness puts users on board a port authority or marine law-enforcement vessel or helicopter for a routine patrol through the desired port. As the trainee actively flies the helicopter and/or sails the vessel through the port, he/she has to carefully observe and appropriately respond to activity both on water and on shore.

Trainee has realistic tools like binoculars at his disposal to zoom in on activity on shore and water. Prior to the exercise, the instructor can create different ‘suspicious’ and ‘not suspicious’ scenarios and actions by using the intuitive and versatile scenario editor. These situations will trigger at a selected time during the exercise. The trainee then has to qualify the detected activity as suspicious or non-suspicious. Each time the trainee notices an activity, he takes notes of it and of the actions he has taken in the interactive logbook, which can be reviewed after the exercise to discuss the different detected activities with the instructor (after action review and debriefing).

INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP TRAINING
Training is possible either individually or as a class.  Trainees discuss the different detected suspicious activities, protocols and procedures for reporting activities, and  review after action. NAUTIS Port Security Awareness allows creation and training of many different ‘normal’ as well as ‘suspicious’ scenarios, including scenarios that are difficult to train in real life.

PORT & SCENARIO CUSTOMIZATION
NAUTIS Port Security Awareness can be customized for any port worldwide, using specific vessels,  and a realistic 3D model of the desired port to guarantee the most immersive and realistic awareness training.

Port Security Awareness includes a wide range of suspicious and non suspicious scenarios and related objects for scenario creation.  To meet their training requirements, customers may request specific scenarios to be added. Below are some of the many examples of the ‘suspicious’ scenarios already included on customer request:

  • Divers in the water, submerging and rising near a moored vessel
  • Fast craft mooring to another vessel and transferring packages
  • People in a restricted access port facility opening a container and loading the contents into non-commercial vehicles.
  • Suspicious transferring of goods from on vehicle to another
  • Diver trying to board a navy or civilian vessel
  • Pleasure craft entering a restricted port area
  • Rigid Inflatable entering port at night with people
  • Individual dropping and leaving a package or container unattended on shore
  • Fishing vessel with no real fishing gear transiting or acting as a mother ship

The NAUTIS Port Security Awareness software can be used on a standard Windows 7 desktop PC. Customized set-ups including a real simulator and vessel controllers are possible.

NAUTIS Port Security Awareness is an immersive and affordable training tool enhancing operational awareness of port security personnel on patrol duty.
NAUTIS Port Security Awareness was nominated for the Safety at Sea International award 2011 and is currently being used by the port of Rotterdam for training of their security personnel.
