Desktop Trainer

The NAUTIS range of simulation solutions includes a very cost effective Desktop Simulator, making training affordable and portable. Depending on the desired requirements, configurations are possible combining different visual display systems and desktop consoles.

Thanks to the low price and small form factor of the NAUTIS Desktop Trainer, training becomes possible on any location, including remote locations (eg. on board of ships). It is also possible to equip a complete classroom with Desktop Trainer units, and carry out special task training or specific mission rehearsals in multi-user mode.

The Desktop Trainer includes NAUTIS simulation software installed on a PC or laptop, as well as a portable control unit. The NAUTIS Desktop Console is available in two variations, one with conventional ship controls and one with azimuth controls.

CUSTOMER BENEFITS
The NAUTIS Desktop Trainer offers following benefits:

  • Optimize the time on a Full Mission Bridge Simulator by preparing students on a desktop trainer.
  • Extensive mission rehearsals for both the civilian and military maritime industry (e.g. rig moves, landing ops, etc.).
  • Special task training and preparation, including STCW compliant ECDIS training
  • Quantity: Train large groups of student simultaneously by enabling multiple trainees to actively practice at their own speed, each on their own trainee station.
  • Quality: Trainees use the exact same quality software as on the main bridge simulator.
  • Flexibility: The number of trainee stations is easily and gradually expandable over time.

TRAINING APPLICATIONS

  • Basic navigation, ship handling and manoeuvring
  • Special task training for Radar, ECDIS, GMDSS, Comms
  • Mission rehearsals (both civilian & military)

INSTRUCTOR STATION
The NAUTIS Desktop Trainer ships with a Mission Editor which allows instructors to prepare and store training exercises before the student starts training.
The Instructor Station is a separate optional addition that allows instructors to monitor the individual trainees in a classroom. It makes it possible to manage multi-user, multi-vessel exercises in real-time.

CONFIGURATIONS
Depending on the desired requirements, configurations are possible combining different visual display systems and control consoles:

VISUAL DISPLAY SYSTEM
The NAUTIS software can be used with a variety of visual display options depending on your requirements:

  • Single screen: The basic version of the Desktop Trainer includes a single screen with external view.
  • Multiscreen: A single NAUTIS Desktop Trainer can drive up to 6 external screen, of which up to 3 outside view screens and 3 navigation panels, from a single PC.

CONTROL CONSOLES
To enhance the realism of the training experience, a desktop control console can be added:

  • The Basic Desktop Console is a compact controller made of steel. The controller buttons, throttles and steering bar can be easily assigned to any function in the software, providing complete freedom to create the control scheme most suited to your needs.
  • The Advanced Desktop Console is a larger unit offering realistic controls, steering wheel and a choice of conventional or azimuth type controls.

CLASSROOM CONFIGURATIONS
The NAUTIS Desktop Trainer can be used in a single set-up or in a classroom configuration. The classroom configuration is a very cost effective method to actively train larger groups of students, reduce the workload of the instructor and better prepare student before they enter the bridge simulator.

The classroom model configuration consists of multiple trainee stations, each with a PC, Desktop Console and NAUTIS software. In a classroom configuration, an Instructor Station is optional and can be added to allow an instructor total control of all exercises in real-time.

ADDITIONAL OPTIONS
The basic set-up of the Desktop Trainer includes the radar/ARPA and electronic chart which are included in the NAUTIS software. These are suitable for basic radar/ARPA and electronic chart navigation training. For more advanced training, additional software modules can be purchased:

  • NAUTIS In2Sim Radar Trainer
This radar simulator has all the features needed for IMO STCW radar training. It can be interfaced to the NAUTIS simulation software, so the radar image corresponds with the outside view in NAUTIS.
  • NAUTIS In2Sim ECDIS electronic chart display system
This STCW approved ECDIS with display of AIS data provides the professional mariner with the complete navigation situation on one display.
  • Fugawi Marine ENC chart viewer
It is a cost-effective solution for more advanced chart navigation than the standard Nautis chart. Although not STCW approved, it features integration of AIS data.
  • NAUTIS Communications Trainer
It permits multiple students to communicate with each other and with the instructor. Students can be assigned to specific radio channels. International communication standards and/or navy specific protocols can be trained.
  • NAUTIS In2Sim GMDSS Trainer
A DNV certified simulation system suitable for familiarization and training in accordance with STCW ‘95 simulator based training requirements. It is also suitable for carrying out assessments in the operation and use of GMDSS communication equipment leading up to an ROC or GOC Certificate.
